Benztown, a global powerhouse in radio imaging, voiceover, programming, podcasting, and jingles, proudly celebrates the 30th anniversary of “Sunday Night Slow Jams,” America’s top weekend radio show.

“Sunday Night Slow Jams” was created, produced, and hosted by R Dub! who debuted the show on July 17, 1994, at just 16 years old, broadcasting from a small AM station in Tucson, Arizona. The show has since expanded its reach to over 200 radio stations across 14 countries, captivating more than three million listeners each week. Additionally, a weeknight version of the show airs Monday through Thursday from 10 PM to midnight. “Sunday Night Slow Jams” caters to diverse formats, offering versions for Top 40, Hot AC, Urban, Urban AC, Rhythmic/Hip-Hop, and Classic Hip-Hop stations.

In recognition of this milestone, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero officially proclaimed June 21st as “Slow Jams Day” in Tucson, honoring the successful international syndication of the show created by R Dub!. Similarly, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria acknowledged the 30th anniversary with an official proclamation in June.

To commemorate this landmark occasion, “Sunday Night Slow Jams” and its Tucson affiliate, KSZR/97.5 The Vibe, hosted a 30th Anniversary Party and Concert on June 21st at Desert Diamond Casino. The event, hosted by R Dub!, featured live performances by Hi-Five and 112, along with a 90-minute session where R Dub! shared photos, stories, and memories from the past three decades.

Reflecting on the show’s journey, R Dub! remarked, “Thirty years ago, as a high school junior, my dream was to play love songs on the radio and take dedications on Sunday nights. I am incredibly thankful to the program directors who believed in Slow Jams and to our loyal listeners, who now span three generations. It’s surreal to connect with so many people through the magic of radio.”

Dave “Chachi” Denes, President of Benztown, added, “This is a momentous day for a unique radio show that has made history with its engaging, multi-generational appeal. We celebrate R Dub!, his affiliates, and listeners for making ‘Sunday Night Slow Jams’ a cultural phenomenon that has been a soothing presence for countless evenings over the past thirty years. Congratulations, R Dub!”
